Joachim Ehlers, a builder of harps, pianos and guitars, was active in Vienna from 1810 to 1832.

The model was built with particular aesthetic sophistication for the Imperial Court of Francis I of Austria, and was placed in the Imperial Palace in Venice until the second half of the 1800’s.

Later moved to the “Catajo” Castle (imperial residence in Battaglia Terme in the province of Padua), it remained there until 2006.

The plank that stands over the fingerboard depicts a mythological scene painted on wood that is attributed to the neo-classical painter, Joseph Rabel.
