Reconstructions of Historical Instruments
HARPSICORD – CLAVICHORD
Reconstructions
The two instruments are displayed to represent the direct forerunners of the piano from which Bartolomeo Cristofori found inspiration in designing the new instrument.
The Harpsichord, Hubbard of Boston, is a reconstruction of a french model from the mid 18th century. The decoration is the work of Giulia Centanin (1906-1995), a passionate connoisseur of the arts and herself a musician and painter.
Giulia Centanin was the founder of the Music Foundation that manages the Museum.
The Clavichord, built according to a late 18th century model by Fabbrizioli and Zamperlin, represents the last stage in the evolution of this instrument that was widespread, together with the Harpsichord and the Piano, until the very early 19th century.
