Joseph Böhm (1786-1850) set up his piano manufacturing business in Vienna in 1813 and continued to work there until 1840. He took out a number of patents: for a transposing keyboard (lowering it by a semitone), a pedal-operated page-turning device, and a 32-note pedal keyboard.
The instrument on display still has its mute board.
