Ignaz Bösendorfer

J. Bösendorfer
Kaiserl. Königl. Hof Pianos Verfertiger
Wien (1847)

Ignaz Bösendorfer  (1796-1859) was born and lived in Vienna and built his first pianoforte in 1828. In 1830, his great fame brought him the title of piano maker to the Imperial Court.

He produced only a limited number of instruments, all of very high quality, and often very richly decorated.

The Bösendorfer Company, at present a subsidiary company of Yamaha, still produces high-prestige instruments, though construction criteria are of course modern and completely different from the original criteria.
