Giuseppe Berzioli (1803-1871) founded the piano factory in Parma in 1836 and on 25 November 1845, he obtained a proprietary patent for his kind of industry. The Berzioli Company, set up by Giuseppe and his brother Vitale, acquired such prestige and fame that it received official recognition: in 1857 it was appointed official supplier to the Ducal Court, in 1857 official supplier to the Teatro Regio and at the 1863 exhibition it was awarded the first class medal.
