Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) was born in Rome but spent most of his life in England; he was one of the foremost pianists and composers of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and is considered one of the founders of modern piano technique. The title “Father of the Pianoforte” was engraved on his tomb.
Clementi was also a successful music publisher and piano manufacturer; his factory was one of the most flourishing in early nineteenth-century England.
