Johann Heitzmann founded his piano factory in 1839. In 1845 he took part in the Third Industrial Exhibition of the Austrian Monarchy held in Vienna and in 1854 his factory was present at the German Industrial Exhibition in Munich.

In 1860 his son Ludwig joined the business and the name of the factory was changed to “Heitzmann und Sohn” and under this name it gained further recognition in 1873 at the Vienna World’s Exhibition.

At the Heitzmann factory the founder’s grandson, Antonin Petrof, began working, and later he became a prominent figure in the panorama of piano manufacturers in Europe.
