“Pantalon” is a word that is as little known today as it was widely used in the 18th century. Even Chopin often uses the term pantaleone to indicate the piano. It is an instrument (square piano in most cases) whose salient characteristic is the lack of dampers. This type of instrument was created to evoke the sound of the Dulcimer, invented at the beginning of the 18th century by Pantalon Hebenstreit (hence its curious name), in which the vibrations of the strings could expand freely without being dampened..<\/p>\n
