Mathias M\u00fcller (1770-1844), a native of Wernborn near Frankfurt, once he had moved to Vienna in 1796,\u00a0 obtained citizenship there in 1797. He was the first to make an upright piano in the shape of a harp, and later gave a particular impulse to the evolution of the piano into its vertical form. We owe the conception and construction of certain particular instruments to him: the Ditanaklasis (upright piano with two counter-posed fingerboards), a harp with fingerboard, and two other instruments with a very complex structure and traits that he called Panmelodicon and Xaenorphica. In 1820, he became builder of musical instruments for the Royal Court.<\/p>\n
